Putin puts nuclear deterrent on special alert

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian military to put its nuclear forces on "special alert" - the highest level of alert for Russia's Strategic Missile Forces. Speaking to top military officials, including Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, he said Western nations had taken "unfriendly actions" towards Russia and imposed "illegitimate sanctions". INEC to hold crucial meetings following approval of Electoral Act by the PMB

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold an extraordinary meeting on Saturday in a bid to proceed with implementing the provisions guiding the forthcoming election within the new law. INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye Esq, disclosed this in a statement on Friday. He said the Electoral Act 2022 contains many progressive provisions that will facilitate the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria. While explaining that the nation now has the Electoral Act 2022 which replaces the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), the INEC commissioner said together with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the new Act constitutes the principal law to govern the conduct of future elections, including the 2023 poll. Russian President, Putin ready to negotiate with Ukraine

The Kremlin on Friday said President Vladimir Putin was ready to send a delegation to Belarus for talks with Ukraine, as Russian forces approached Kyiv on the second day of Moscow’s invasion. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Russian leader was “ready” to send a high-level delegation “for talks with a Ukrainian delegation” to Belarusian capital Minsk, which has previously hosted rounds of peace talks over the Ukraine crisis. He said Putin’s ally, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, told him that he would “create the conditions” for such a summit. Russia has thousands of troops stationed in Belarus, and Ukraine said it was being attacked from several sides — including from Belarus. Putin and Lavrov sanctioned over barbaric war by Canada Government

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has just announced the country will join the US, UK and EU in levying sanctions against Russian President Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Speaking at a news conference in Ottawa's Parliament Hill, he said that Putin's “own personal wealth... is at significant risk because of his terrible mistake". "We will be imposing sanctions on President Putin and his fellow architects of this barbaric war," he said, adding that sanctions will also be placed on the leaders of Belarus due to their support for Russia's invasion.

UK bans Russian National Carrier, Aeroflot

Amakazy Media just gathered reports that the UK has just banned Russian private jets from its airspace, after announcing on Thursday that Russia's national carrier Aeroflot would also be banned. Russia responded on Friday by banning British airlines. Other countries, too, have banned Russian air traffic. Bulgaria says no Russian planes can enter its airspace from Saturday, and Poland and the Czech Republic have made similar moves. Russian airline S7 - one of the country's largest - has cancelled all flights to Europe until 13 March because of the airspace closures. US airline Delta has suspended its partnership with Aeroflot.
